The economic and industrial policies of the Southeast Asian log export countries underwent a turnaround in the late eighties. To encourage industrial development and increase employment opportunities, these countries increased processing of domestic raw materials and the processing of pulp, timber and plywood became their first steps towards industrialization.

This resulted in the decline of the plywood industry in Taiwan. Ironically, Taiwan became one of the import countries for plywood and other timber products. The decline of the plywood industry was replaced by the supply of plywood processing machinery, steel materials and equipment required during the industrialization process of these Southeast Asian countries. In response to the change in economic conditions, we reduced the percentage of our log carriers and constructed five 2800dwt twin-deckers that can reach further inland for loading and unloading to offer our clients more prompt and efficient shipping services. At the same time, we invested in the construction of 7000dwt twin deck bulk carriers and continued improving the standards of our shipping facilities to ensure that cargo entrusted to us is delivered to its destination safely and promptly. Our quality of service won the admiration of the shipping industry.
